Science & Origin of Amethyst
Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz that has become one of the mineral kingdom's most popular and well-known crystals. Amethyst gains its colour from gamma irradiation and trace amounts of Iron. This crystal earned its name from the Greek word "Amethystos", which translates to "not intoxicated". This stone is given unique names depending on its formation or locality, including Rwanda Amethyst and Chevron Amethyst. Most of the world's Amethyst supply currently comes from Brazil and Uruguay. Specimens in these South American countries have been found as tall as small buildings and can sell for millions!
