Science & Origin of Danburite
Danburite, like Topaz, is a calcium boron silicate mineral that forms tiny prismatic crystals. Its colour can range from white to light yellow, as well as a light brown tone. Danburite of very high quality is colourless and usually translucent. It is sometimes seen with a druzy layer of Quartz on top of it. Because of the clarity and resilience of the diamonds, jewellers adore cutting this material. A cut Danburite gemstone can cost up to $10,000.
This mineral was discovered in 1839 by Charles Shepard and called for the town where it was located, Danbury, Connecticut. This location was never officially documented and has since vanished. It is assumed that the actual city of Danbury was built directly on top of the alleged location. Danburite has since been discovered in Russia, Mexico, Bolivia, Myanmar, Japan, and Madagascar. A recent Danburite finds in Macomb, New York, has revived interest in America's never-ending Danburite hunt.
