10.0 履虎尾,不咥人。亨

Treading on the tiger's tail without being bitten by him is fortunate. The tiger symbolises the tyrant. Treading on his tail enables you to gauge his responses. by understanding your competition's strengths and weaknesses, you can better unseat him. Experience must be gained by testing the waters. Only then can you plot the perfect plan.


10.1 初九素,履往。无咎

Yang on Line 1: Treading forward on the familiar path is not a mistake. The typical course refers to the play-it-safe strategy. If you don't draw attention to yourself, the tiger will not place you under suspicion. Creep softly under the barbed wire. A conservative approach is best.


10.2 九二履道坦坦;幽人貞吉

Yang on Line 2: The path is level and straight. Move forward like a hermit. King Wen's mission to overthrow the Shang dynasty was in the right direction. Like a hermit who is focused, determined, and utterly justified in his decision to separate himself from the world. King Wen concentrates on the mission. In the same way, you must focus on your project/ job/ relationship. Right now, this is your primary concern.


10.3 六三眇能視;跛能履。履虎尾,咥人,凶。武人為于大君

Yin on Line 3: The blind believes he can see. The lame believes he can walk. To tread on the tail of the tiger and be bitten carries misfortune. It is similar to a street fighter believing he is an invincible king. King Wen understood his plan must be fail-safe before launching a full-scale uprising. The vision of grandeur will lead to misfortune. Don't bite off more than you can chew. If your plan isn't sound, revise it.


10.4 九四履虎尾,愬愬—終吉

Yang on Line 4: Treading with caution upon the tiger's tail will bring eventual fortune. Moving step by step, King Wen cautiously pushed King Shang's response. Because King Wen was prepared, his campaign was won. When it's all system go, move forward with caution. The fittest will survive. You will be successful.


10.5 九五夬履。貞厲

Yang on Line 5: He treads with determination. If he is over-confident and inflexible, there will be risks. In any venture, you must expect challenges and the unpredictable. Have a Plan B. Be adaptable. Errors come at an untimely moment. Lack of preparation for the unanticipated invites jeopardy.


10.6 上九視履考祥。其旋元吉

Yang on Line 6: Examine the trodden path. The victory will be repeated. There will be a good outcome. After a triumphant battle, King Wen reviewed its details. This laid the foundation for future achievements. Examine your work with great care. Putting your best foot forward will lead to brilliant success.
