Zhongli achieved Tao. A man from the Eastern Han Dynasty was surnamed Zhongli, named Quan, styled Yunfang, and also known as Zhengyang. He was from Xianyang County, Xi'an, Shaanxi. He served as a general in the Han Dynasty, and every time he led the troops, he was the vanguard. By the age of fifty, he had killed over three hundred thousand people. He led a northern expedition against the Tufan with twenty thousand soldiers. His troops were weak and ended up scattering after their resources were exhausted. He escaped alone on horseback to a mountain valley, where a nomadic monk led him to the Ningyang Cave in Zhongnan Mountain. Considering the honor and disgrace, gains and losses of human life, he resigned his official position to cultivate the Tao. Donghua Emperor taught him the immortal methods. He then secluded himself on Yangjiao Mountain in Jinzhou. During the time of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, he was invited to court but did not go. Whenever there were significant matters, the court would seek his advice, and he was referred to as the "Prime Minister in the Mountains". He was the teacher of Lu Dongbin, the leader of the Eight Immortals, and the founding master of the Zhengyang sect, known as the Zhengyang Emperor. Later, the emperor bestowed upon him the title of Zhenren of Taiji Left and Right Palace.
