What you see in front of you may not be accurate. It will be neither dangerous nor safe. Cutting one's flesh to repair an injury is stupid. It is preferable to stay and wait for the perfect opportunity.

A foolish man slices his flesh to repair an injury, inflicting further harm on himself. Maintain the status quo and wait until the perfect time.

A wise guy understands when to halt and when to go. Cutting one's flesh adds to the pain and provides little relief.

孫膑困龐涓。 戰國。 孫臏齊人。 龐涓魏人。 同師事鬼穀子。 孫膑之學優於龐涓。 涓為魏將。 妒嫉膑才。 涓以計刖其足。 后孫臏假作顛狂。 得脫歸。 齊威王以膑為師。 將兵伐魏。 膑用減灶添兵之法。 賺龐涓。 追至馬陵道。 膑伏弩射擊。 涓知無路可逃。 在樹下自殺。
Sun Bin traps Pang Juan. Sun Bin was from Qi during the Warring States Period, and Pang Juan was from Wei. They both studied under Guiguzi's guidance. Sun Bin's learning surpassed that of Pang Juan. Pang Juan, a Wei general, was jealous of Sun Bin's talents. He used a scheme to cut off Sun Bin's feet. Later, Sun Bin pretended to be insane and managed to escape. King Wei of Qi appointed Sun Bin as his military advisor, and they attacked Wei. Sun Bin used a tactic of reducing cooking stoves while increasing the number of soldiers to deceive Pang Juan. He pursued Pang Juan to the Ma Ling road, where Sun Bin set up a crossbow ambush. Realising there was no escape, Pang Juan committed suicide under a tree.
