Allegory

Han Wen Gong encountered snow. Han Yu, styled Tui Zhi, was from Changli. He became a Jinshi in the eighth year of Zhenyuan during the Tang Emperor Dezong's reign. He was posthumously honoured as Wen Gong. Due to his remonstration against welcoming the Buddha's relics, he angered the emperor alone and was demoted to the position of Chaozhou governor. On his way, he passed through the Lan Pass, where heavy snow sealed the mountains. His horse could not move forward. Han sighed, "The emperor did not kill me, but the heavens will end me." Before this, his nephew Han Xiangzi had once said, "With clouds covering the Qinling Mountains, where is home? Snow blocks the Lan Pass, and the horse can't move forward." At this moment, Han Wen Gong finally understood the meaning. Later, Han Yu abandoned his official position, donated all his wealth to the local area, and entered the mountains to practice Taoism and become an immortal.
