13.0 同人于野，亨。利涉大川。利君子貞
Gathering people in the wilderness is a safety measure. It is advantageous to cross the great stream. It is beneficial for the virtuous man to proceed. There will be a success. To avoid arousing Shang King's suspicion, King Wen gathered his divisions in the back woods to prepare for the uprising against Shang. Muster support and form alliance quietly and quickly. With proper preparation, your idea will come to completion. Be ready for a great happening.
13.1 初九同人于門；无咎
Yang on Line 1: Gather outside the gate. There will be no mistake. King Wen allied with people other than his own. Befriend and partner with acquaintances and strangers. This will broaden your prospects.
13.2 六二同人于宗，吝
Yin on Line 2: Including only those with the same lineage is a mistake. Had King allied with only people closely related to him, the result would have been shortsighted and regrettable. Partnering with only those you know indicates a lack of courage and foresight. You will regret your decision later.
13.3 九三伏戎于莽。升其高陵，三歲不興
Yang on Line 3: Hide the army in the bushes. Monitor the enemy on the mound. Look for an opportunity to advance. Because of the strength of the Shang army, King Wen did not take action against them for three years. Play it safe. Make sure you understand your competitor. Be patient and attack only when you're sure to win.
13.4 九四乘其墉弗克攻。吉
Yang on Line 4: Mounted on the enemy's wall, he did not attack. When King Wen gained the upper hand, he ceased further military action. By doing this, he gained respect and won the people's affection. Show benevolence when you are victorious in battle (litigation, competition). Sportsmanship and goodwill are admirable qualities.
13.5 九五同人，先號咷而後笑。大師克相遇
Yang on Line 5: After the victory, the Allies met. They cried first and then laughed. Then, after King Wen's allies captured a Shang castle, they rallied to celebrate their victory. When you and your partners have accomplished something great, celebrate your success. It was a memorable moment.
13.6 上九同人于郊。无悔
Yang on Line 6: The Allies met in the outskirts with no regret. Because they did not want to frighten the Shang commoners, King Wen and his troops assembled away from the captured castle. This display of justice left nothing to regret. When you are the winner, show compassion toward the loser.
