Data

There is a smooth progression. The little fox has not yet crossed the river, but its tail is already wet. Nothing is gained. The "little fox" refers to King Wen's father, who was killed because he posed a threat to the Shang empire. This event marked the beginning of the dynastic change. Change is in the air. Step into it with courage and confidence. King Wen's father did not act in time. Look at you. Do not be afraid. Persevere.

Yin on Line 1: The little fox got its tail wet. It is a shame. The "little fox," King Wen's father, could not defeat the Shang king. You cannot yet beat your competitor or advance to a higher position. Take this time to hone your skills and strengthen your inner reserve without being noticed. Keep a low profile.

Yang on Line 2: Brake the wheels. Persevere in persistence. There will be a fortune. Play it safe! This is no time to take unnecessary risks. Being cautious is the right course of action.

Yin on Line 3: The great river has not yet been crossed. However, it is advantageous to cross it. Danger lurks. It was risky business attempting to overthrow the Shang. Yet, the Zhou persevered to achieve this goal. Your project/job is going to be very difficult. Yet, do not give up. It is a terrific opportunity to earn a great accomplishment.

Yang on Line 4: It is fortunate to be firm. All unfortunate events will be forgotten. Join the Shang to help conquer Gui Fang (a northern tribe). In three years, the big country will bestow gifts and accolades on you. The Shang king invited the Zhou to help him conquer the northern barbarians. In so doing, the Zhou gained valuable military experience. Learn from your superiors and competition. It will pave the way to success.

Yang on Line 5: It is fortunate to be firm. It is honourable to be noble. Gaining the people's trust brings excellent fortune. Sticking to your principles will help foster a noble reputation. It is the first step toward success.

Yang on Line 6: Toasting your success is not a mistake. If you become addicted to drinking later, it will damage your reputation. The Shang leaders drank to excess and led lavish lifestyles. The heady, intoxicating taste of success colours the mind and threatens to resolve. The Duke of Zhou feared his people would follow in the Shang's footsteps and succumb to evil. He fought against this. Be mindful of addiction. It is difficult to break a habit. The best thing to do is to fight it before it gains too firm a hold.
